The History of Curran Miller Auction/Realty, Inc.

Hugh MillerSince its beginning in the spring of 1936, Curran Miller Auction/Realty, Inc. has remained a family business. Curran not only conducted his own sales but was in demand as an assistant by established auctioneers. His wife, Ann, served as his clerk and secretary.

For young Curran Miller, founding a company during the depression years offered a unique opportunity to be of service. As people began to feel the effects of hard times, they often needed to turn the things they owned into cash. Whether a horse, car, wagon, house or other personal property -- Curran built the company upon the desire to get the highest dollar value for the seller and represent the property being sold in a fair and honest appraisal to the purchaser.

Miller & HendriksA large storage and auction facility was added in 1982, which became known as The Auction Mart, and as one of the finest auction/real estate facilities in the state, presenting fine antiques, paintings, and collectibles to capacity audiences. However, as the company grew, its needs changed. The Daylight facility was sold in 1998 and new corporate executive offices were established in Evansville, utilizing the modern Vanderburgh County 4H Center for monthly antique and collectible auctions.
